Have you heard of soy wax in recent years?
But what does that really mean?
We felt it was important to explain the difference between paraffin wax, which is found in many commercial candles, and soy wax, which has made a remarkable entrance into the candle world in recent years. The latter is a delight for those who are concerned about their health and our beautiful planet.
Let's face it, candles have long been a part of our daily lives, creating a warm ambiance at home, in the office, or even as gifts. But have we ever wondered if the smoke we inhale when lighting a candle is toxic, for us or for the environment?
What is soy wax?
Soy wax is made from soybean oil, a renewable plant resource. It is therefore considered more natural, biodegradable, and environmentally friendly.
Paraffin wax, on the other hand, is a derivative of crude oil, resulting from refining. Widely used in candles and cosmetics for its ability to retain fragrance and produce a stable flame, it comes from a non-renewable resource and is not biodegradable, making it less environmentally friendly.
The benefits of soy wax
Soy wax candles generally burn slower and cleaner than paraffin candles. They produce less smoke and soot, a significant advantage, especially for scented candles. Conversely, paraffin wax tends to burn faster and release more smoke.
A local and responsible choice
Many soy wax candles are made by local Quebec companies, a great way to support the local economy while making a healthier and more environmentally friendly choice.
